Julie Neil -first person account of real honest-to-goodness events involving Tiffany Machado (owner of Machado Photography) on assignment!
I personally have witnessed Tiffany take a dozen pictures of a single bracelet for a magazine ad; she could see the slight differences between the angles and shadows that I didn’t notice until she pointed it out. She made sure that her client got the perfect ad shot!
I have seen Tiffany calm kids, make uncomfortable people comfortable in front of the camera, get a dog to “smile”, wrangle chicks and bunnies and climb a tree to get the perfect angle. I am so impressed by her dedication to her craft that I jumped at the chance to become the Social Media Rep for Machado Photography.
I know that every one on the Machado team is just as dedicated!
Machado Photography makes sure that their clients get the best memories possible.
Look in someone’s wedding album; you’ll see all of those shots. Then look in someone else’s album. You’ll see pretty much the same shots with different people and different flowers.
Still using weddings as an example, have a look back at some of the weddings on this blog. Yes, the favourite styles of pictures that most brides & grooms want are there, but they’re DIFFERENT! The pictures aren’t just of the bridal party standing in front of a garden in a row. The pictures are creative by design!
Bridal party shots in a comic book store; genius.
Bridesmaids and flower girls sitting on a shelf at an outdoor café; cute!
Hanging around a vintage gas station; intriguing !
Bride and groom sharing a kiss while standing on a rock in the lake; gorgeous.

If you follow my blogs (and of course you do!) you’ll recognize my assistant Becky in these pictures. Becky and her fiancé Dave are set to tie the knot in the fall this year, and of course I’ll be the lucky photographer! But before the big day, we had an eventful engagement shoot to complete!
This was a double location engagement session. We had a beautiful day in Victoria Park, a lot of fun and non-stop laughter (as is always the case with Becky & Dave when we get together!) but Dave really had his heart set on going back to the place where he had proposed to get a few more shots.
Dave is a romantic at heart, and his proposal was no exception. He had carefully picked a meaningful location at Greenwood Conversation Area in Ajax, among the roots of a massive, ancient tree. The tree was his metaphor for their relationship; this very old and very special tree represented something that will last, something that’s stood the test of time and weathered the storms of life and stayed strong. Very clever and insightful and beautiful, isn’t it? I can’t blame him for wanted to go back to that exact spot for the photos.
It was a cold day in late October last year and it had been raining for two days. That meant that we had a long, muddy hike into the woods to get to that tree that had such a personal connection for them. The conditions ended up working to our advantage; the pictures have a middle-earth, ancient quality about them with the overcast sky and lighting that suits the setting and atmosphere perfectly. And there’s something about an umbrella as a prop that works so well.
We were all cold and a bit soggy by the end; Dave slipped and fell twice and Becky did once, so I guess Karma got them back for dragging me out in the rain (just kidding), but at the end of the day it was a unique, gorgeous and meaningful spot, and the rainy day made for stunning pictures.
It was a day filled with laughter, beauty, suspense, mystery, tears of joy and tears of despair…intrigued yet? You should be!
Michelle & Zolt’s big day had all of the elements of a huge summer blockbuster! Part one of my blog (everyone getting ready, the suspenseful moment when Zolt saw Michelle as she dramatically descended the grand staircase) was just the beginning!
We had the pre-ceremony photo shoot at Timeless Café. The contrast of between the elegance & beauty of the bridal party against the rustic elements of the exterior of the café made for a stunning setting. And all of the kids lined up on the shelf…how cute is that! That’s a picture that we need to revisit in 15 years and shoot the same kids in the same poses! Wouldn’t that be great?
The ceremony took place on the patio at Golf’s Steakhouse, under the lovely willow trees and overlooking the Grand River. Remember those tears that I mentioned earlier? This is where they come in!
There was hardly a dry eye during the emotional ceremony; all tears of joy except for one fellow in great despair… Michelle & Zolt’s poor little guy Jackson! He practiced and practiced for his important role as ring bearer for his parents’ big event. He was so excited for the grand moment…and then the call of nature ruined everything! He was barely consolable after missing his part, but luckily the reception provided a perfect distraction. And it will make a heck of a great story that will embarrass him through his teenage years and beyond!
Zolt and Michelle wanted some extra laughter at the reception, so I provided a photo-booth setup with some hilarious props and all of the guests went wild! Who doesn’t love a good fake mustache? It’s a great alternative (or addition to) a traditional guest book. The guests wrote their messages to the happy couple on white boards, donned crazy/mysterious disguises and laughed uproariously! I love Michelle’s niece’s understated humour with her mustache and “I have a mustache” sign! Too cute!
It was, without a doubt, an amazing day!
I love my job!
